Seo Tai-ji whips up a frenzy
Is the old "Seo Tai-ji fever" reviving? The question is rising after his first and second albums that debuted in the 1990s were re-released recently after being digitally remastered.

According to sources in music markets and news reports, the reformed albums that were released on April 2 are selling like hotcakes. The re-released albums of "I Know!" and "Hayeoga" ranked first and second, respectively, on the charts of the online website of Hanteo Chart.

Seo Tai-ji, 37, is a singer-songwriter who led the legendary Seotaiji & Boys. He is the cultural icon for his creative and unique music style, which mixes heavy metal, hard rock and hip-hop.

Seo has remained solo since the three-member group was disbanded in 1996.

An expert in mass culture said it is meaningful that the "old" singer out-performed popular idol groups like Big Bang, TVXQ, Girls' Generation and Wonder Girls.

Music fans seem to be positive about the re-released albums. The expert said fans must have been charmed by the album's songs with better sound quality. Apparently boosted by the popularity of the two albums, Seotaiji Company plans to re-release not only the third and fourth albums of Seotaiji and Boys, but also Seo Tai-ji's solo albums.
